April 2019 Cookbook Clique

[heart_this] · Apr 8, 2019 · Leave a Comment

A Common Table by Cynthia Chen McTernan is my pick for April’s cookbook clique!

Lawyer turned food blogger, Cynthia Chen McTernan, shares recipes and modern mash-ups from her early years in the South,  Chinese heritage and learnings from her Korean mother-in-law.  Somehow just about every recipe is just what I want to cook right now!  The photos and stories in the book are beautiful, making this book even more of a treasure.

“Cynthia believes that food can bring us together around the same table, no matter where we are from. The message at the heart of A Common Table is that the food we make and eat is rarely the product of one culture or moment, but is richly interwoven–and though some dishes might seem new or different, they are often more alike than they appear.”-from Amazon

Here are some of my favorite, must-make recipes in the book:

  • Char Sui Barbecue Pork Buns
  • Cheddar-Scallion Biscuits + Kimchi-Brined Spicy Chicken Biscuits
  • Garlicky Bok Choy
  • Spicy Gochujang Eggs in Purgatory
  • Bulgogi Burgers
  • Collard Wontons
  • Slow-Simmered Soy and Black Pepper Beef
  • Chinese Cola Chicken Wings
  • Garlic, Ginger and Soy Salmon en Papillote
  • Pimento Cheese Macaroni Salad
  • Sticky Sesame Peanut Pie
  • Spicy Kimchi Hand-Torn Noodle Soup

ABOUT ME

Hi. I’m Amanda. I love food, cooking, sharing it with others and documenting it. I’m a little of this and little of that-taste while you go type of cook.  I found a true passion over the years when I really began to understand how deeply connected food and love are.
