On Sundays We Brunch: Series 4

[heart_this] · Aug 26, 2018 · Leave a Comment

ON SUNDAYS WE BRUNCH IS A WEEKLY COLLECTION OF THOUGHTS, FAVORITES AND LINKS.  FOLLOW ALONG TO DISCOVER NEW THINGS AND REMEMBER OLD ONES!

Welcome to On Sundays We Brunch Series Four!  I’m hoping this will be a time for us to talk about life like we’re really sitting together over brunch and share favorites…articles, recipes, products, books, inspiration, whatever it may be!

Brunch is my favorite because the spirit is light, you have the whole day ahead of you afterwards, and all food is fair game and it often involves champagne.  Urban Dictionary defines brunchin’ as “Midday lunchin’ acting a fool in the mid-morning to lunch time”.  Could there be a more fitting description?

Grab a mimosa, pull up a chair and let’s chat!  Oh, and if anyone wants to act a fool, I’m game.

Cheers to another week in the books!

I found these glasses in a St. Germain gift set in Chicago a few weeks ago and I’M OBSESSED!  I’ve been searching for these glasses since I returned from France; we had these delicious St. Germain spritzes served in these glasses in Nice.  Since I couldn’t find them once I returned home, I just assumed they were a French thing that we Americans could never get our hands on!

But, fate stepped in and led me to them at a liquor store in Chicago…

If you can get your hands on one of these, I highly recommend picking one (or two!) up.  That way you too can feel like you’re sitting at a café in Nice drinking a spritz!  Oh, and there’s even a recipe on the back to make this.

Also, do you guys know about Tiny Tom tomatoes?!  They’re tiny, super sweet cherry tomatoes that are both incredibly adorable and so delicious.

THE BEST THING I ATE THIS WEEK: BECAUSE, DUH

This week was restaurant week in Des Moines, so a bunch of local restaurants had special menus for 3-course meals.  I went to a few and had delicious meals…and I got a few nights off from cooking!

The best thing I ate this week is a toss-up between two that I just had last night…of course, I forgot to take a picture of one.  Seriously, what is wrong with me?!

The best of the best: 1)A fennel and potato soup with orange parsley oil and confit garlic marmalade (no picture, waahhhh) and 2) this vanilla bean crème brûlée with rum buttercream and a tiny piece of banana bread!IMG_1071.jpg

  • Please take this Harry Potter Quiz and tell me how you did because I failed and am extremely embarrassed about it because I am a self-proclaimed HP fanatic.  I’d say it’s time for a Harry Potter marathon + book-reading binge.

WHAT’S COMING NEXT WEEK:

I’ve been working on a roundup post about what I consider The Essentials of a Well-Stocked Kitchen- the kitchen products that I use all the time and can’t live without!  Plus an heirloom tomato pie, bourbon cream corn, a snap pea salad, strawberry cake and my September Book Bag reading list!  Plus another edition of On Sundays We Brunch.

A REMINDER FROM OLIVER, BIRDIE AND I:

Some weeks are just hard.

“You don’t always need a plan.  Sometimes you just need to breathe, trust, let go, and see what happens.”

Here’s some more inspirational quotes to get you through Monday!

Have the best week, friends!

ABOUT ME

Hi. I’m Amanda. I love food, cooking, sharing it with others and documenting it. I’m a little of this and little of that-taste while you go type of cook.  I found a true passion over the years when I really began to understand how deeply connected food and love are.
