September 2018 Book Bag

[heart_this] · Sep 3, 2018 · 1 Comment

I’m a few days late getting this out but we still have enough time to read all these, right?! Here’s what’s in my bookbag for September 2018.  Happy reading!

1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

??????????

Okay, so I’ve definitely read all the Harry Potter books cover-to-cover at least 3 times.  But considering I have a deep love and borderline unhealthy obsession with all things Harry Potter, I’m always down to re-read the books!

Have you heard of Binge Mode?  It’s a weekly podcast that recaps popular movies, TV shows and books in a super engaging, educational and enlightening show that is also usually hilarious.  I first started listening to the Game of Thrones episodes and was immediately hooked.  They just started putting out Harry Potter episodes that walk through each book and I’m so excited to read and listen along.

2. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

??????

Ugh, I’m jumping on this bandwagon quick!  Not like it’s a bad thing, but I feel like a traitor to the books when I start reading just because a movie came out.  The movie has gotten such rave reviews that I had to pick up the book ASAP.  I’m going to try my darnedest to avoid the movie until I’ve read the book…but we’ll see!

3. Essentialism by Greg McKeown

Working a full-time job and trying to keep my blog going (and growing!) has been a challenge for me for the last month.  This book is all about the disciplined pursuit of less…identifying the right things to be doing and getting them done.  I need need need this in my life right now.

4.  Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain

????????

I love Anthony Bourdain so much and was beyond upset by his death, at a possibly irrational level.  It affected me so deeply, which was both heart-breaking and very confusing to me since I didn’t even know the man.  I’ve been watching his shows for years; I first started with No Reservations on the Travel Channel back in the day and was immediately hooked by Anthony’s witty, articulate and deeply honest way of telling his story of the world.  This is his first, ground-breaking book, which made Anthony Bourdain a household name.  (You can check out this awesome article that sparked the book here.)  I’ve had on my shelf for awhile, not quite sure when I’d be able to pick it up without being sad.  I’m ready now.
