Never Not Hungry

On Sundays We Brunch: Series 16

Welcome to On Sundays We Brunch Series Sixteen!  I’m hoping this will be a time for us to talk about life like we’re really sitting together over brunch and share favorites…articles, recipes, products, books, inspiration, whatever it may be!

Brunch is my favorite because the spirit is light, you have the whole day ahead of you afterwards, and all food is fair game and it often involves champagne.  Urban Dictionary defines brunchin’ as “Midday lunchin’ acting a fool in the mid-morning to lunch time”.  Could there be a more fitting description?

Grab a mimosa, pull up a chair and let’s chat!  Oh, and if anyone wants to act a fool, I’m game.

Spring is finally here!  Things are popping up outside, plants are turning green, and my chives I planted last year are starting to show their pretty little faces!  I’m unnaturally excited about this because a) I LOVE CHIVES and b) I have always wanted to be a green-thumb gardener and I’m considering this my first success in a (hopefully) long life and love of gardening.  I just have to educate myself more on gardening-and eventually get a bigger yard!

What should I plant this year?

THE BEST THING I ATE ALL WEEK:

We went to dinner this week for my mama’s birthday at one of my favorite places in Des Moines, a French restaurant called Django.  My favorite meal of the week is a toss up between this potato-and-truffle stuffed agnolotti pasta with a sage cream sauce, mushrooms, arugula and lamb pancetta and this to-die-for dessert of cherry gelato, amaretti cookies, bruléed marshmallow, dulce de leche and pistachios.  It was so good that I’ll even forgive ’em for the pistachio shells I inadvertently chomped down on.

RECIPES I’M LOVING:

WHAT’S COMING NEXT WEEK:

My April (what?! APRIL?!) book picks, antipasto two ways: an Italian sandwich and a chopped salad, the flakiest buttermilk biscuits, BLT pizza and a super-decadent chocolate bread pudding.  Plus another week of brunchin’!

A REMINDER FROM OLIVER, BIRDIE AND I:

This is real life, not Instagram-life…disheveled blankets, improperly placed throw pillows and an open thermostat cover.

“Excellence is never an accident.  It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives-choice, not chance, determines your destiny.”-Aristotle
