Toasted Sesame-Ginger Spice Mix

IMG_7894

I’m going to state the obvious here: do not make this unless you love the flavors of sesame and ginger.  This is great on roasted green vegetables, grilled salmon or sprinkled over grilled or baked pitas or flatbread.  I’m sure there are a million other uses for it, but I can never get past some roasted broccoli or grilled salmon sprinkled with the spice mix.

Description

A great all-purpose spice mix of sesame seeds, ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup white sesame seeds
  • 1/3 cup black sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons dried crushed or minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.  Heat the sesame oil over medium-low heat in a nonstick skillet and toast the spice mix for about 10 to 12 minutes until the sesame seeds are light golden brown, stirring occasionally.  Watch it closely when you start to smell the spices-you can’t save it if you burn it!
  2. Keep stored in an airtight container.
